What this calculator does

This calculator shows the PayPal fee for any transaction amount, including the net amount you receive. It also has a reverse mode where you enter the amount you want to receive, and it tells you how much to charge.

Who it is for

Freelancers, small business owners, online sellers, and anyone receiving payments through PayPal who needs to understand or account for transaction fees.

How to use it

Enter the payment amount. To find out how much to charge to receive a specific amount, tick the ‘I want to receive this exact amount’ option. For international payments, tick the international transaction option.

How the calculation works

PayPal’s standard UK domestic fee is 2.9% + £0.30 per transaction. International fees are 4.99% + £0.30. The reverse calculation uses the formula: gross = (desired amount + fixed fee) / (1 - percentage rate).

Worked example

You invoice a UK client for £100: Fee = (£100 × 2.9%) + £0.30 = £3.20. You receive £96.80. To receive exactly £100, charge £103.40.
